We will do our best to add a brief profile of your favourite Swiss Meadows Resident. Any amusing anectdotes are welcome.Update 2005 March 31st , 2005 Another spring time is upon us and apparently due to back ordering issues our water supply pumps are not yet installed. The water tower has been completed as many of you are already aware. I will replace the photos in the gallery as soon as I get a chance. As always, please feel free to email me with any comments or concerns you would like posted to our web forum. Also, it is good for individuals to take concerns directly to the town and have them addressed. You can find out who to contact and how at http://www.thebluemountains.ca under the "departments" section. Sometimethis springwe will finally have municipal water and come into the 21st century! No more boiling our water, worrying about supply, and rotting our plumbing fixtures and appliances with the extremely hard water we have from our wells. The gain in property value as well as the savings on home insurance brought about by the addition of fire protection are other excellent benefits we should appreciate. Perhaps this will take the sting out of the cost of the project to the ratepayers. As long as everyone pays their fair share as they connect and every possible avenue of obtaining grants is explored, the benefits far out-weigh the pain. Additionally there has been grant money won by the town to help offset the cost of bringing water to us. Nick Brindisi, President - Swiss meadows Ratepayers Association |
Watermain Construction Some of you may have been watching the progress of the installation of our 8" watermain over the past months. A great deal of preparation is still underway in order to start delivering water some time in the middle of December. The water main travels from the reservoir at the bottom of "Hog's Back" ski run, directly up Hog's Back, up to the view at the end of Maple Lane continuing up Maple Lane to Hamlet, accross Hamlet and up the road past our current well system. All of this pipe burying has been completed and work is now rapidly progressing on our large silo style water tower. Click the photo below to go to our gallery page to see photos of the tank construction. The first step for us will be connection of the municipal supply to the existing distribution. In this way, we will be able to take advantage of it without waiting for all of Swiss Meadows distribution system to be installed. Those of us on Maple Lane and Hamlet along the direct path of the supply line will be fed off the old distribution system until we have the new supply lines buried and connected from the curb stop to the house. While there is some overlap in time until the old system is shut off, it is in your best interest to contract a licenced plummer and excavator and have the supply line installed as soon as possible after the spring thaw. The municipality will not maintain the old distribution system in the long term. It is definitely advantageous to contact your insurance broker once the hydrants are activated to ask about reduced premiums. There may be significant savings available on your home insurance! - Nick Brindisi/photos courtesy Grant Johnston... |
